2nd Foursquare First Friday

Well, there was enough interest for last month's First Foursquare First Friday, where we played Foursquare (Learn what Foursquare is here) during Missoula's First Friday downtown, that we'll be doing it again. @MontanaMonica went to the most art galleries from 4 pm - 8 pm and won a growler of beer from me.

Photos of the Missoula Inversion

So often when I go up to Snowbowl, the ski mountain just outside Missoula I see the valley floor socked in. It seems that one would only have to hike the M to get above the fog, and into what usually is blue sky and a sunny day. Most of the people in town (including me when I'm there) think that it's a cloudy, foggy day, but we don't realize that a sunny day awaits us 100 feet above our heads. Curious what makes an inversion happen? Learn why here. I've gathered a few of my favorite photos of the Missoula Inversion here, I hope you enjoy them:

First Foursquare First Friday

As I'm sure you know, I've been a big fan of Foursquare, the location based game. And recently it has started to catch more interest in the Missoula Twitter community. I think that it would be a fun idea to play a game of Foursquare during Missoula's First Friday, the downtown art walk that takes place the first Friday of every month. The two ideas of what is being done is practically duplicated: going to multiple places, checking out new venues, and hopefully running into friends and other interesting people.

So here's what I propose: the person who gets the most points on Foursquare on Friday the 5th of February 2009 in Missoula, MT from 4pm - 8pm, I will give a growler of any beer from any brewery in Missoula. You can even keep the glass container. I know it's not too much, but I thought that it'd be fun for everyone who played the Foursquare First Friday game could met up at the brewery of the winner's choice the next day around 6pm-ish and all hang out, enjoy a beer, and chat. And of course, so I can give a growler of beer to the winner. To make it more interesting I was hoping more people would be willing to put up another small prize. Just mention it in the comments below.

Missoula gets a hostel: Hutchins Hostel

Missoula's newest addition is one of the first of it's kind: a hostel. The pivotal European traveling experience comes to Montana. I've heard that stays are $20-$25, but I'll have to check up on it. There's also an article about this that I'll link to later.

David Garrigues is doing an Ashtanga Yoga Workshop in Missoula

October 23rd - 25th, 2009, David Garrigues will be at the Yoga Fitness Center in Missoula, MT for an Ashtanga Yoga workshop involving an intro to the 2nd series that is open to all students (the section I'm most interested in), Pranayama, Vinyasa, and Restorative asanas, and a classic Mysore practice. David has a wonderful practice and a unique insight into Ashtanga that is very valuable. Ben and I had the pleasure of practicing alongside him when we went to Mysore, India. Please see the flyer above or call (406) 728-6770 for more info.

Almost Spring

image144905723.jpgIt's so close to spring in Missoula. It keeps trying to snow on us down here, but it can't quite make it. I love when you can see the line where the snow made it to but became rain.

Get Digital: A Crash Course on what you don't know about social media

NewWest.net , is throwing a cool, informative event designed to inform businesses how they can harness next generation social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, that is free and viral. This is the direction that information sharing and commercial suggestion (which while probably replace advertising) is going. Friends suggesting where the good stuff is to one another through an interconnected, overlapping web of ties to people we actually know. So this event would be pretty informative for any businesses/entrepreneurs who don't get this "digital/social thing" that is happening to our world, our economy, and your business.

The Details:

Full Disclosure: I work for NewWest.net as their Webmaster and am promoting this event through aforementioned social services. Although I do think that it will be a good event to check. Plus it's only $10...

Yoga class continues to grow

Yoga Class

I had my weekly yoga class at the Church of Expression (which isn't really a church, just 8 people living in an old church) last night. It's been going every Wednesday at 7:30pm since January of this year. I'm quite proud of how long I've been teaching it. However, I'm more proud of how far all my students (which are mainly my good friends) have come. I don't even really have to demonstrate the poses anymore. Usually I can just blurt out the sanskrit name of the pose and most everyone takes it, with a few others following in the motions of those who understood. Most of the time I'm just saying "inhale up", "exhale down" for the entire practice. Sometimes I think that people just need the drill sargent there keeping them from stopping and saying to themselves "that's enough for today".
